Renting walkie talkies in New York City can be complicated. There are so many vendors and each with a different offering. At Street Team Studios we rent the latest Motorola CP200d radio. Many of the other vendors in the area are renting the older CP200 which was discontinued in 2014. Moreover, some vendors are even renting the ancient Motorola Radius which is decades old.
Why does this matter?
Well first off, the insides of the CP200d “d” stands for digital are all upgraded with technology that gets you clearer transmit and reception. The newer batteries that come with the CP200d have a much larger capacity. Battery life is major factor when you have a film shoot or event and you are renting walkie talkies to save time. If you are renting older walkie talkies from a vendor that has CP200’s or Radius models you will most likely be swapping batteries every 2-4 hours. Meanwhile, most of our customers return their walkie orders with the extra bag of bricks sealed as their walkie batteries lasted all day!
On top of that, our promise to you is that we will fully charge all your walkies & batteries prior to pick-up. And we have found a case that allows us to send out our walkie talkies with the antennas ON so that saves you even more time as you do not need to-do anything but turn them on at the start of the day and off at wrap.
We hope that this article was helpful to you and that you now have a greater understanding of different Motorola walkie talkies being rented in NYC. Keep in mind that there are some vendors out there renting walkie talkies that are NOT Motorola. Motorola is industry standard and anyone trying to rent you any other brand for Film & Events is misguided.
